Hotel Locarno - Roma
“Small, intimate, stylish and highly individual, Hotel Locarno has consistently been voted the best three star hotel in Rome” (Hip Hotels) Understated class. Built in Italy’s golden 1920s, one can almost hear the swish“ of boas worn by the wives of italian inter-war industrialists” (The Times)
Hotel Locarno is a masterpiece unto itself, perfectly situated on a quiet road in the centre of Rome and just a stone’s throw from the splendid Piazza del Popolo. Romantic, intimate and sought after, this place is ideal for anyone seeking comfort in a refined historical environment. The hotel comprises two buildings at the very heart of Rome adjoined by a delightful garden smelling sweetly of wisteria where, in spring and summer, guests can take their breakfast and lunch and sip one of our excellent aperitifs. Locarno is a welcoming and refined guesthouse that the original Swiss owners inaugurated in 1925 with advertising posters by the famous artist and cartoonist Anselmo Ballester.
Walking down the entrance hall and taking in its period charm is like traveling back in time to the 1920s. Hotel Locarno is extremely historical in its own right, as it has and continues to be a stage and retreat for famous film actors, directors, writers, producers and musicians. This is an art house par excellence.
There are sixty-six bedrooms and suites, each different in terms of size, decoration and furnishings, all strictly antique, and featuring modern facilities such as air conditioning, WI-Fi internet access, satellite TV, Sky TV, electronic safe box and mini-bar.
This is a historical hotel for guests seeking something far from the ordinary. Many directors have staged famous films at our hotel and the Geneva-born director Bernard Weber directed his film “Hotel Locarno” here in 1978.
To this day, personalities from the world of cinema and the arts gather every evening at the historic hotel bar on the ground floor where Agostino the multi-prize winning barman enthusiastically and expertly prepares excellent “Negroni” and the famous “Number 10”, a cocktail of his own invention (winner of the IBA (International Bartenders Association) Best Pre-Dinner Cocktail in 2006). During the summer, drinks are served in the marvelous and romantic garden, where jazz concerts are performed one evening a week. Alternatively you can request service on the splendid roof-top terrace that offers a stunning, all-round view over the roofs of Rome, Trinità de’ Monti and the dome of St Peter’s Cathedral.
The hotel is the ultimate location to enjoy a fine drink and a whole world of relaxation.
